North Stradbroke Island
Straddie, and how much of it is within reach
Point Lookout sits at the island's northern tip. Main Beach and the North Gorge Walk are a five minute drive; the lakes and the quieter bays are a short one after that.
What there is to do on Minjerribah
Point Lookout
The village at the northern tip, and the resort's own doorstep.
The North Gorge Walk
A loop around the headland on boardwalk and track, above the gorge where the swell comes in. Turtles, dolphins and whales in season are all commonly seen from it.
Main Beach
A long surf beach on the eastern side, patrolled in season. Five minutes by car.
Cylinder Beach
The sheltered one, and the usual answer when you have children with you.
Whale watching lookouts
Several along the headland, though from June to October you may not need to leave your balcony.
Cafes and restaurants
Within the village, walking distance for most of the resort.
Surfing, fishing and swimming
Point Lookout is the island's surf side. The boutique and reception can point you at the right beach for the day's conditions.
The rest of the island
Worth the drive, once you have settled in.
Brown Lake and Moira Springs
Freshwater swimming inland, tea-tree stained and calm, a change from the surf.
Dunwich and Amity Point
The island's other two townships, both on the western, sheltered side.
Quandamooka culture
Minjerribah is Quandamooka country. Cultural tours and guided walks run on the island and are the best way to understand where you are.
Diving and snorkelling
Manta rays, turtles and grey nurse sharks are all seen off the headland at the right time of year.
03 / Getting here
Two boats across, and no need for a car
Everything leaves from Toondah Harbour at Cleveland, on Brisbane's bayside, and lands at Dunwich. The Stradbroke Flyer water taxi crosses in about 25 minutes; the SeaLink vehicle ferry takes about 50 and carries your car. From Dunwich it is roughly twenty minutes by road to Point Lookout.
You do not need a car. The train runs to Cleveland, both operators shuttle you to the harbour for free, and the island bus meets the water taxi at Dunwich.
Ferry timetables and fares are set by the operators and change seasonally. Reception can help you plan the crossing around your check-in.
