The humpbacks start moving past Point Lookout in June and keep going until about October. The water off the headland is one of the better places in south east Queensland to watch them from dry land, and you do not need a boat or a tour to see them.
Start on your own balcony
Every villa here faces the water, so the first place to look is your own deck with a coffee. The headland villas sit closest, with the ocean straight off the deck.
The headland reserve
The reserve beside the resort is open to guests twenty four hours a day, which makes it the quiet alternative to the public lookouts when a pod stops offshore. Bring a picnic blanket and something you have made in the villa.
The North Gorge walk
About five minutes away, the North Gorge headland walk is the vantage point everyone knows about, and it is worth the trip whether or not the whales are running: turtles, rays and dolphins use the gorge all year.
